CAIR rejects American Muslim organization’s request for debate: Cowardly response again reveals corrupt reliance on ad-hominem attacks and denial of need for reform

PHOENIX (March 13, 2014) – On March 7, Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser, President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD) sent a letter to Corey Saylor, Director, “Department to Monitor and Combat Islamophobia” for the Council on American-Islamic Relations. On March 12, Mr. Saylor declined our invitation.

In his response, Saylor expressed “disappointment” that we posted the letter publicly, alleging that our challenge was nothing more than a “publicity stunt.” Given CAIR’s repeated refusal to engage us directly and honestly on the issues, resorting instead to very public ad-hominem attacks issued in deceitful reports and countless press releases, we find Mr. Saylor’s “disappointment” revealing. While CAIR regularly pushes its narrative about Dr. Jasser and AIFD to every media outlet that will listen, Mr. Saylor would rather we not publish our mildly worded and entirely honest request for a debate on our website and social media. Why? It should now be obvious that CAIR would rather deal with its Muslim dissenters through deception and intimidation rather than through transparency, honesty and debate.

Saylor’s response continues CAIR’s malignant and defamatory approach to our ideological differences. Most stunning of all was his likening of AIFD to the Ku Klux Klan, anti-Semites and seditious “anti-government organizations”, as well as his dishonest yet unsurprising assertions that we oppose First Amendment protections for Muslims, oppose the building of mosques, and support unwarranted surveillance of Muslims. Again much like the Islamists and the conspiracy theories they propagate, the more they repeat lies and delusions the more they become convinced of their own fabrications. Each of their points is easily refuted by statements and actions made by Dr. Jasser and AIFD, which are all on public record. Simply put, Mr. Saylor’s letter serves to highlight CAIR’s open refusal to be held accountable. As self-appointed ambassadors of the Muslim community, their behavior is unIslamic and in fact stands in opposition to the Islamic tradition of open debate, which was championed by Prophet Muhammad. CAIR’s disrespect for the Qur’anic commands to honesty and moral courage is indeed disappointing and should cause their small membership to rethink the fear and moral depravity their organization actually represents.

Saylor’s response highlighted several events or initiatives that AIFD participated in, but conveniently ignored actual statements made by Dr. Jasser and AIFD about these events and initiatives. Instead, his letter was self-congratulatory (he inappropriately likened CAIR’s cowardly approach to the courage of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) and refused to address the real need for reform within the Muslim community.

In addition to the above, Mr. Saylor repeated CAIR’s refrain that AIFD is funded by what they define as “the U.S. Islamophobia network,” and that AIFD is anti-Muslim because of who might mention us positively in a blog. This weak attempt at discrediting us would be entirely laughable if their much larger budget didn’t lend them such significant access to the public arena. Of course, Mr. Saylor has perhaps forgotten that many who support CAIR also support the Muslim Brotherhood, and that their own Executive Director is on tape saying he would “support the Hamas movement,” – a U.S. government recognized terrorist organization.

It is important for Muslims and non-Muslims alike to realize that groups like CAIR only represent the minority of Muslims in the U.S. A study by the Abu Dhabi Gallup Center reported that only 12% of the American Muslim community – hardly a majority – said that CAIR represents their interests. Nonetheless, they are a vocal bullying organization who uses any tool they can to stoke fear among American Muslims and crush any voices who oppose them.

When we posted our request for a public debate on our website, CAIR balked at what would have been a prime opportunity to advance their mission and debate our differences in a neutral and transparent setting. Since CAIR is ultimately afraid of the impact of actually standing on a stage and defending their ideas, AIFD has decided to take the debate to them.  AIFD will now engage in a series of discussions and commentary that is aimed at highlighting the reform that is necessary within the Muslim community. We will examine the public positions of CAIR and other Islamist organizations and contrast them with AIFD’s approach which is rooted in a sincere commitment to protecting the individual rights of all people.

AIFD calls on those Muslim voices CAIR would seek to silence: stand with us in discussion and introspection, addressing those issues within our community that remain in dire need of reform. We must dismiss CAIR and  all of their Islamist allies as the ideological relics that they are.

Our debate will begin in the coming weeks, on social media and on the broader public stage.  Our community cannot continue to refuse internal reforms.  If we want our children to have a better future both in America and abroad we must look within, find our individual and collective strength, and make it happen.

06/27/2014 As Muslims begin the month of Ramadan, AIFD sends its blessings and renewed dedication to freedom for all

PHOENIX (June 28, 2014) – Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser, president and founder of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD) issued the following statement regarding the start of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan on Saturday, June 28, 2014 or Ramadan 1, 1435 of the Islamic Hijri Calendar:

“Today, we begin the commemoration of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. We wish all Muslims a ‘Ramadan Kareem’ and a blessed and rewarding month of fasting and self-reflection.

During this, the ninth month of our lunar calendar and the holy month of fasting, we are reminded to give thanks for our blessings, while keeping the suffering in our prayers and taking additional action to help them.

We are reminded of the sanctity and safety of this great nation which we call home, and which gives us the comfort and freedom to sincerely engage in the humble spiritual renewal that is Ramadan.

These are values many American Muslims all hold dearly, but may often come to take for granted.

As we abstain from food and drink during the day in this blessed land of freedom, we continue to remember, with a humble and solemn recognition, the Syrian people continuing to fight against unthinkable evil and great uncertainty. This year marks the fourth Ramadan in their revolution against Assadist tyranny. At the end of last Ramadan, the death toll had reached 100,000 with over 2,000,000 Syrians displaced. This Ramadan, the death toll is approaching 160,000, with over 5 million Syrians displaced. The millions of displaced Syrians see little hope in sight for the end of Assad’s killing machine and terror factory.  It is this recognition – which calls us to the duty to serve our fellow man – which lies at the heart of Ramadan.

This Ramadan, we also reaffirm our commitment to advocate for those persecuted on the basis of their faith or their choice to reject religion; those suffering from gender and honor-based violence; and to take action to end these injustices.

The fast of Ramadan is a symbolic equalizer for all Muslims. From the very rich to the very poor we find common goodness in the challenges and rewards of the daily fast. The hunger and thirst we share allow us to find a common appreciation for the gifts we have at home and in this nation.

This month, we renew our daily efforts to remind our brothers and sisters of all faiths and none that we, as liberty-minded American Muslims, not only cherish western freedoms, but that the solution to global Islamist radicalism must come from liberty minded Muslims.

We are blessed to take this opportunity to wish Muslims worldwide a blessed and safe Ramadan, and a spiritually fulfilling fast.”

06/07/2014 In Response to Attack on Jewish Center, Southern Poverty Law Center Releases Report Attacking Jews, Defending Hamas

Source: Frontpage Mag

After Frazier Glenn Cross, an anti-Semite who repeatedly quoted fanatical left-wing anti-Semite Max Blumenthal, launched an attack  near a Jewish community center, the Southern Poverty Law Center rushed to cover up and lie on behalf of Blumenthal.

The SPLC claimed falsely that Blumenthal “does not despise Israel” when even the Forward, a left-wing paper, describes him calling for the ethnic cleansing of its Jewish population.

Now the SPLC, a profitable mail order enterprise operating under the guise of a civil rights group, exploited the very anti-Semitic attack it tried to cover up by attacking Jews.

The targets of its “White Homicide” intelligence report, even though the victims in the Cross case were also white, include David Horowitz, as the SPLC defaults to one of its favorite obsessions, Islamophobia.

What does any of this have to do with the Frazier Glenn Cross shootings? Nothing. The SPLC, as even most liberals know, is a profitable mail order operation that piggybacks on any incident to roll out its usual sloppy and poorly researched screeds. It is however particularly insulting that it is exploiting an anti-Semitic incident it lied about it… in order to attack Horowitz, myself and other Jews.

The Southern Poverty Law Center’s White Homicide report is, true to form, a scattershot collection of drive by attacks. Its targets include Homicide star Richard Belzer (also Jewish) for spreading JFK conspiracy theories, Rush Limbaugh and former Saturday Night Live star Victoria Jackson.

The basis for the SPLC’s attack on Horowitz was a discredited report from the Center for American Progress by Wajahat Ali, an Islamist who was on record as targeting Muslim reformers like Irshad Manji and Zuhdi Jasser with nasty slurs. Ali was on the board of the MSA, which his report and the SPLC attacks Horowitz for condemning.

04/07/2014 Muslim Dad Complains About Easter Egg Hunt, Sparks Controversy

Source: Newsmax

One Muslim parent’s complaint that his children were given fliers by their public school teachers promoting an upcoming Easter egg hunt has sparked a controversy – and a show of interfaith solidarity.

Majed Moughni was upset after his son and daughter, both elementary school students of Dearborn Public Schools in Dearborn, Mich., brought home invitations to an “Eggstravaganza” at a local church.

Dearborn is home to about 40,000 Arab Americans, according to the 2000 Census, the highest proportion of Arab Americans in any U.S. city.

Moughni, an attorney, complained to the Detroit Free Press in a story published April 4  that the distribution of the fliers represented a violation of the constitutional separation of church and state.

That sparked a media controversy, with conservative outlets like American Thinker  decrying the Muslim parents who were upset about the invitations for the Easter egg hunt – a controversy fueled by the belief there were multiple parents who complained. The Free Press story said that “Moughni and others are worried that churches are trying to convert their youth through Dearborn Schools,” but Moughni was the only parent quoted in the story.

04/20/2014 My view: The fifth commandment is more than a directive

The Quran, which Muslims believe to be the revealed word of God, contains the essence of nine of the Ten Commandments. (The only one we do not share is the Sabbath.) The fifth commandment to “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land, the Lord your God is giving you” contains lessons for today that both Muslims and non-Muslims should heed.

The fifth commandment is more than a directive. Unlike other commandments, it contains a promise from God. The spirit of the fifth commandment can be found throughout Islamic tradition. Muslims are commanded to honor our parents and are reminded that we will be judged for whatever “good or evil” we have done in following Quranic directives.

“Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor” (Quran 17:23-4). Muslims are reminded to respect their parents in the same breath in which God reminds us to “worship none but Him.” But does this promise cut both ways between generations? Our sacred books of faith tell stories of prophets and families with struggles, parents who have failed and children who have chosen a path not taken by their forefathers. Many find ruin and misfortune while others, like Abraham, found God.
